Part­ing com­pa­ny from elec­tron­ic pio­neers ATTRITION and after com­plet­ing the album SMILING AT THE HYPOGONDER CLUB(THIRD MIND) in late 1985.

ALEX NOVAK(ISAWS/RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE/TEMPEST) head­ed back to his native NORTHAMPTON to hook up with his broth­er JOHN NOVAK(ISAWS/WHERES LISSE?) on gui­tar and TONY BOOKER on bass,to form the first incar­na­tion of VENUS FLY TRAP in the sum­mer of 1986.

They demoed the tracks MORPHINE,CATALYST,DESOLATION RAILWAY,which have been issued by GLASS mina­ture as a down­load only EP in 2019.

VFT were picked up by French label TUESDAY RECORDS(sub label of DANCETERIA)and the tracks were re-record­ed as two 12” sin­gles MORPHINE(1987) and DESOLATION RAILWAY(1988),both these tracks appear on the album MARS,which came out in 1989 on DANCETERIA.

Line up changes fol­lowed with JOHN NOVAK leaving,TONY BOOKER mov­ing to guitar,CHRIS EVANS com­ing in bass and DAVE FREAK on percussion.

Live gigs includ­ed dates with the MISSION,CHILLS,WOLFHOUNDS,SHACK,SPACEMEN 3,TOM VERLAINE,GAUNA BATZ and their first ten­ta­tive sojourns to France,playing the famous Paris venue GIBUS.

The album was well received by UK and for­eign press espe­cial­ly in France where the release got into the top 30 nation­al chart.
